Trailwalkers (Members Only)

October – December
Monday – Friday weekly

Trailwalkers are supporters who donate $250 or more during the year. Our 10 miles of trails are open to you to walk whenever Owl’s Hill is open. Gates are open 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and many times during the weekend. Hiking privileges do not include admission to programs that may be going on during your visit. We will see you on the trails!

Knee-High Naturalist: The Spirit of Giving – Parents & Kids Ages 3-5

Tuesday, November 1 & Wednesday, November 2
10am – 11:30am
Cost: $10 one adult + one child / $7 each additional person

In the “Spirit of Giving” children will discover what lessons we can learn from our animal friends and how to protect them and care for our planet earth.

Fall Foliage Hikes – Adults Only

Tuesday, November 1, 2016
1:00pm – 3:00pm
Cost: $7/hiker

Fall is upon us! This series of guided walks is just for adults and allows one to follow the progression of fall at Owl’s Hill. Walks begin promptly at 1:00; reservations suggested. Cameras and binoculars welcome.

The Art of Still-Life with Rachael McCampbell – Adults Only

Thursdays November 3 – December 15 (no class Thanksgiving Day/November 24)
9:00am – 12:00pm
Cost: $280/person; acrylic paints & brushes available

Each week, an arranged and lit still-life will be set up to paint. The process will be to focus on composition, color mixing, laying down the basics and details with a focus on light and shadow, shape, volume, color and mood. Any level is acceptable. Rachael believes in emphasizing personal and individual styles and expression over realism or perfection. Art is supposed to be fun, relaxing and playful.

Owl Day- Kids & Families

Cost: $20 Family of 4; $10 Adult + Child; $7 add’l persons

A celebration of all things owl at Owl’s Hill Sanctuary! Meet our non-releasable program owls and enjoy entertaining and informative talks on each species. Hike through owl territory, make owl pins and decorations, dissect owl pellets. Interesting and fun for all ages! Let us know you’re coming!

Intro to Beekeeping- Adults Only

Saturdays November 12 & 19; December 3 & 10
9:30am – 12:30pm
Cost: $60/person
The Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary will be offering a beginning beekeeping course that is designed to provide information on how to succeed as a beekeeper.   This course is perfect for individuals with little or no beekeeping experience who desire more knowledge in order to proceed with caring for their own honey bee colonies.

Jim Primus and Jean Simpson, practiced beekeepers and beekeeping educators, will conduct a lecture/demonstration course that includes four modules:

  • The World of Honey Bees and Beekeeping
  • How to Start and Manage Your Colony
  • Maladies of the Hive and How to Prevent
  • How to Build a Hive and Produce Honey

In addition, a practical module will held at an apiary site the early part of April, 2017 and will cover how to inspect your hive and steps to control and monitor for parasites and pests.

Open Hike – All ages

Cost: FREE

Come out to Owl’s Hill for a free hike! Join one of our staff members or volunteers on a guided hike through Owl’s Hill. This is a great opportunity for families, individuals, and small groups to come enjoy the trails of Owl’s Hill and get some exercise. The hike will be approximately two to three miles with some moderate hill climbs included. Hikes will start at 1:00.

Basket Weaving – Beginners – Adults Only

Cost: $30/person

Join us as we engage in the traditional craft of basket weaving with expert weaver Janet Lanier. We will be weaving a wine basket. This class is great for beginners.
