Grassland Village Special Area Plan – Public Involvement Meeting #1 Recap

Plan Meeting #1Williamson County Planning Staff conducted the first public involvement meeting for the Grassland Village Special Area Plan on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6:30 – 8:00pm at Grassland Middle School in the cafeteria. Members from the County Commission and the Grassland Citizen’s Advisory Committee were there as well as members of the community, totaling about 60-75 people.

First, was a recap on the history and direction of the process, followed by small groups to discuss and share our thoughts and ideas for the community. The introduction also stressed that these meetings and this plan are not in any way about renaming, incorporating, or annexing anything or any part of the area. A brief list of ways to help was also presented. You are encouraged to make your voice heard now so that your thoughts and opinions can be a part of the plan!

How can you help?

  • Ask questions.
  • Talk to committee members. Contact the committee members via the committee email address.
  • Attend meetings and participate in workshops.
  • Invite others to meetings.
  • Envision what Grassland can be long-term, rather than focusing on what it can’t be.

Hot Topics

Many great ideas came from the small group discussions. Two questions were posed to the group:

  1. What are the most important Planning, Preservation, and Development issues facing the Grassland Village?
  2. What is your vision for the future of the Grassland Village?

The full lists will be posted online, but here are some highlights from the discussion.

  • Cartwright Creek, sewer, and drainage
  • Traffic management
  • Self-contained community with more services in the area
  • Connected areas that are pedestrian friendly

The comment receiving the largest applause was one to bring a hardware store to the village.

What to do next.
